This is the first Summer in 3 years where everything is more or less back to normal. Festivals are back on, you can go away on holiday and there are no limits on the people you can meet up with. Although we are now in the final weeks of Summer I’m going to enjoy the sunny weather before Autumn takes hold next month with my things to do in August.

Sunflowers are such gorgeous flowers and I love having a bunch of them in the house at this time of the year. They remind me of late Summertime along with poppies. We planted some sunflowers earlier this year and managed to grow 14 seedlings. After putting them outside they were picked off one by one by the local thugs snails and slugs. Hopefully have better luck with them next year!
Who doesn’t love a good afternoon tea with dainty sandwiches, scones with cream and jam and lots of delicious cakes? This year Afternoon Tea week runs from 8th-14th August. Why not treat yourself to an Afternoon Tea out with some fizz or you could even invite some friends round and have one at home. Here are my tips on How To Host An Afternoon Tea Party if you are thinking of having one at home. Important question: what do you put on your scone first? Jam or cream?
While we still have some warm sunny days left pack a picnic and head to the beach for some vitamin sea. Living in the UK most people aren’t too far away from a beach (unless you are in the Midlands) and are only a short car, bus or train journey away. Here in the North East of Scotland we have quite a few beautiful beaches close by with sandy beaches. Although Noah seems to prefer the pebbled beach of Stonehaven so he can chuck the stones into the sea!
Tuff trays are fantastic for entertaining younger kids. I like to do themed ones for Noah so he can learn about things such as the different seasons, festivals or even about books. You maybe already have things at home where you can make up a themed tray. If not you can buy themed kits from eBay or Etsy where someone has done it for you. Since Summer is all about ice cream I bought this Ice Cream kit from a seller on Etsy. It comes with 5 plastic cones, a scoop, a can of foam soap and coloured rice for sprinkles. Including postage it came to £11.50 so not too expensive plus we both had a lot of fun making the ice cream cones.
