This Burger and Fries Pie fakeaway tastes like the real thing and is Syn free instead of the 34 syns a Big Mac meal would be.
Hands up who loves a juicy burger and salty fries! Yep, me too! Did you know that a Big Mac comes in at an eyewatering 25.5 syns?! If you added medium fries into that you are looking at another 8.5 syns. So a medium Big Mac meal will take up over 2 days worth of syns even if you do only stick to a Diet Coke! Don’t panic though. Your burger chomping days are far from over as I’ve got a syn free fakeaway for you! While your burger might not be in a bun nor shaped in a patty, it certainly doesn’t lack the hamburger taste. I give you the Burger and Fries Pie.
This post was originally published in August 2015 so I decided to update the images as well as making it Slimming World friendly by being syn free. The only changes that I made was switching the mince to 5% fat, adding a Spicentice Gourmet Burger spice mix and making my own chips instead of shop bought ones! You could even make it a Cheeseburger and Fries Pie by adding cheese out of your Hex A and it will still be syn free. Remember and syn it if you’ve already used your Hex A allowance for that day.

Preheat oven to 180°c (fan oven)
Cut potatoes into chips and par boil for 4-5 minutes.
Drain the chips and arrange on a baking sheet in a single layer. Spray with low cal cooking spray and place in oven. Cook for 25-30 minutes and turn once. Remove from oven when a golden colour. Leave the oven on as it’s going back in!
Add your mince and burger spice mix to a pan. Brown the mince over a medium heat and then add the chopped onions. Fry for a further 5 minutes.
Add the tinned tomatoes, salt and pepper and allow to simmer for about 15 minutes.
Spray an oven dish with the low calorie cooking spray and add some of the mince mix then layer with some chips. Repeat until you have used all of the chips and mince.
Throw on some sliced gherkins (and cheese if you wish) and place in the oven and cook for a further 10-15 minutes until all the cheese has melted.
Remove from oven and allow to stand for 5 mins.
Serve with a salad.
There's something so wrong, but also very right about this haha! I wouldn't say no if someone offered me it.
I'd guess I'd say my favourite comfort food is pasta, or if I'm feeling fancy, a big bowl of kedgeree 😉

Oh wow! I love the look of this. What a fantastic idea. I think I need to try this. I think my family would love it x
Thanks! 😊 I hope they like it. I did think that it tasted even better the following day as it probably gave the herbs and spices time to develop so might be worth making in advance.
