Spicentice Meal Kits | Chinese Chicken Seasoning

For full transparency I was gifted these products in return for a review feature on my blog.  It is not a paid partnership with Spicentice.  I only work with brands that I  would use myself/feel is a good fit for my blog.

Hey! Hello!  It’s been a while since I last did a Slimming World Sunday post.  If I’m honest I fell off the weight loss wagon the past few weeks due to holidays, everyone in the house being ill and well just life in general.  Tomorrow is a new day and new beginnings and all that….  Anyway I thought I’d start the return of Slimming World Sunday with a Spicentice Meal Kits Review post.  I was kindly sent some products to try from the lovely people at Spicentice and wanted to let you know what I thought of the ones I tried.

Spicentice Meal Kits Review

I am all about making life simpler in the kitchen.  Working, looking after kids, etc means that you want minimal effort with maximum results with your meals.  That’s why my favourite kitchen time savers are: a Slow Cooker, frozen chopped onion (yes, really! Plus no tears!) and now Spicentice Meal Kits.  If you are unfamiliar with Spicentice they are an online store based in Leicester that sell meal kits using the highest quality of pure spices and herbs from all over the world.  These  meal kits come with clear ingredients, shopping lists and their own recipe card which is so helpful.  This means that there’s no need to buy 16439 jars of seasonings or measuring out what you need.  It’s already for you just to chuck in along with the rest of your ingredients.

Chinese Chicken Curry

Takeaway Chinese curries tend to be made with soy sauce and thickened with flour.  Both of these ingredients mean it’s not suitable if you are gluten free.  Even the Mayflower Curry sauce that everyone raves about on Slimming World contains wheat.  The attempts I’ve made from using gluten free recipes have never got it just right.  However I found the Spicentice Chinese Chicken Seasoning meal kit has the right ingredients to make it taste authentic.  I replaced the flour stated on the recipe card with cornflour to make it gluten free and it tasted just like how I remembered Chinese curries to be.  Even Mr Fussy himself agreed that it was really good.  You could also make it veggie by swapping the chicken stock for vegetable and adding veg.  I am definitely ordering this again!

Gourmet Burger Spices

I used this Gourmet Burger Spices sachet in updating an old recipe on the blog, Burger and Fries Pie.  Although I added cheese and bacon to the dish it is still Syn free.  I did find that this tasted better the following day as it likely allowed the herbs and spices to increase their flavour.

Gourmet Chips and Wedges

While chips and wedges may taste good this gourmet chip seasoning takes them to another level!  Again a lot of ready made flavoured chips or wedges contain gluten so you just learn either to do without or modify them in what way you can.  You don’t need to use a lot and one sachet lasted us for another day.  Just give the sachet a shake over your chips or wedges before bunging them in the oven.  Once ready your chips have gone from bland to bloomin’ tasty.

Balti Spice Mix

I decided to give the Balti Spice Mix sachet a try but with prawns rather than the chicken suggested on the recipe card.  While it is an easy dish to make and full of flavour I did find the Balti a bit too spicy for my liking.  I guess you could tone down the spicyness with 0% fat yoghurt but I never had any at the time.

As well as the individual meal kits, Spicentice also sell rubs, chillies  and super saver bundles.  There are over 60 products to bring you a host of flavours from around the world. You could even buy some as gifts as they have Indian Night In, Slimming World favourites and Student Survival Packs for something different to give someone!  The meal kits and rubs contain 100% pure herbs and spices so are gluten free!

They have a huge selection of products so I’m sure you will find plenty to choose from. The Chinese Curry and the Gourmet Chips and Wedges were my favourites. It certainly saves you buying a load of different herbs and spices to clutter up your cupboards and use them once!

I haven’t heard of Spicentice. It sounds like a great addition to the kitchen.
I love the sound of the Chinese chicken curry. #MMBC

Oh the Chicken Curry is soooo good! Definitely one to try! The packets of spices certainly save waste as with some spices you end up barely using them for some recipes then end up chucking them out.

  4. Carol says:

Meals look tasty – I’ve never heard of them. I wonder if they are in the USA? #MMBC

    • Denise says:

Thanks 😊. No not in the USA. They’re based here in the UK, from Leicester but they do send overseas so living in the US they will send them to you over there 😊

  5. Oh you had me at chicken curry! These look wonderful.
I haven’t tried Spicentice before, but looking at your pics they are definitely worth a go. x #MMBC
