Revolution Aberdeen – Cocktail Making & Menu Tasting
30/03/2016
Myself and some other bloggers in Aberdeen were invited to Revolution for a cocktail making masterclass and also to try out their new menu, having never made a cocktail in my life (but drinking quite a few lot in my lifetime) I was excited to give it a go. Revolution is situated smack bang in the middle of the city centre on Belmont Street and is on two levels with the lower level leading on to a bar terrace with views overlooking Union Terrace Gardens, luckily for us it has a covered roof as although it was a lovely sunny day it was freezing outside.
On our arrival we were given a welcome drink of either a glass of Prosecco or for the drivers among us, a mocktail. Since I was driving I had the Naked Sunset mocktail, a tropical fruity drink with pineapple and passion fruit in it which was really refreshing. After catching up with some old faces and chatting to some new ones we then moved upstairs to the bar for the cocktail masterclass. Connor, the bar man really knew his stuff and was keen to show us how to make the perfect cocktail. We each chose what cocktail we would like to create and took our turn at the bar where we were told what to put in and how much was needed to make whichever cocktail we wanted.
Sarah went first and made a Bubblegum Daquiri which was topped with flying saucers (the sherbet sweet & not a real one, obvs), Anastasia went for the Salted Caramel Mudshake, Iga decided that the Mango & Strawberry Colada was the one for her and I picked a Superfruit Nojito which tasted really good even though it had no alcohol in it.
Having a cocktail masterclass would be an ideal way to start off your afternoon/night to celebrate a birthday, hen night, work leaving, etc. I will definitely be suggesting this for our next night out as it was so much fun, even though being short meant I struggled to “muddle” my mocktail as I had to lean over the huge sink area on my tiptoes to reach the bar! Note to self (and people below 5′ 3″) – wear heels!
Once the masterclass was over we went downstairs to the bar terrace so we could try out their new menu, the terrace has had a makeover since I was last there and is decorated with wooden tables, yellow chairs and vibrant cushions. Their tables had a rustic country kitchen look to it with pitchers filled with herbs and flowers and pretty blue and white patterned plates; the food then came out and the tables were crammed with lots of delicious things for us to try.
There were lots of tasty morsels for us all to try such as their goat’s cheese bon bons, buttermilk fried chicken strips and calamari (this was my favourite) for starters; from comfort food Fish Finger sandwiches to posh Lobster Ravioli (this was also very good)and the slightly weird but totally works Smokin’ Bacon burger which toppings include Wotsits and their MacPhilly Steak sandwiches with the pulled salt beef and Mac n Cheese in them for main courses. Vegetarian? Then there is their Holy Halloumi wrap, stone baked Margherita pizza and Bean Dreamin’ burger for you to get stuck into. The sweet potato fries get a huge thumbs up too for a side dish along with the salads topped with a vodka salsa. There is definitely something for everyone on their menu, you can check out their new menu here.
Disclaimer: I was invited by Revolution to try their cocktail masterclass and their new menu for free but all thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.
