20 Things To Do In Autumn

Autumn is just around the corner and like many Autumn lovers I just can’t wait! After the heatwave that we have had this Summer with feeling too hot, unable to sleep because it’s been too hot, avoiding going outside as it’s been too hot and feeling fed up because it’s TOO HOT!!  I am now looking forward to the cooler, sweater wearing weather of Autumn.  Autumn is by far my favourite season with the leaves turning pretty colours, cosy clothes and boots to wear and all the warm comforting foods to eat.  There are also plenty of things to see and do in Autumn before the Winter sets in.  If you are looking for things to do this season here are 20 things to do in Autumn to keep you busy.  There are things to do as couples, with friends and children too.

20 Things To Do This Autumn

  1. Go to a Pumpkin Patch – There are quite a few Pumpkin Patches in the UK.  Not only can you pick up your pumpkin from there but there are things like mazes, hayrides and  hay bales too, perfect for those IG pics.  I have always wanted to go to a Pumpkin Patch but I think the nearest one to us is in Stirling which is still over a 2 hour drive away.
  2. Have an Autumn picnic – fill flasks with soup, hot chocolate and tea or coffee.  Take a few sandwiches or sausage rolls and some mini pumpkin pies with you too.
  3. Host a Halloween party – decorate your house, make some spooky snacks (Marshmallow Monster Eyeballs, anyone?), have a Halloween playlist ready and invite some friends round.
  4. DIY an Autumn craft – Loads of ideas on Pinterest or how about a Boo Wall Hanging?
  5. Toast marshmallows on an open fire or make S’mores – either at a camp fire or fire pit in your garden.
  6. Pies – Autumn is pie making season, decision is which filling to make.  A savoury filling like Steak or Chicken and Leek?  Or sweet like Pumpkin or Apple?
  7. Make Mulled Apple juice – or even cider if you wish.
  8. Go on a ghost walk – most towns and cities have organised Ghost Walks.  You might discover things about where you live that you never even knew about.
  9. Have a Halloween Movie Night – There are loads of scary and not so scary Halloween films out there.  Dim the lights and grab your popcorn.
  10. Carve a pumpkin – or even have a Pumpkin Carving Party.  Roast the pumpkin seeds afterwards for a tasty snack.
  11. A walk in the woods – See all the pretty colours with the leaves changing colour.  Remember and wrap up warm.
  12. Decorate your house for Halloween – whether you are having a Halloween party or not, a few Halloween decorations will make your home more Festive.  You can pick ones up cheaply in places like Poundland, Home Bargains and Aldi.
  13. Go to your local organised Bonfire Night – bring your own sparklers and buy hot dogs from the van.
  14. Burn some candles – It’s time to dig out those Autumn scented candles.  If you don’t have any get yourself to a store and buy some.  Anything with cinnamon, apple or pumpkin and you are good to go.
  15. Have an Autumn Scavenger Hunt – Make a list and try and find different coloured leaves, conkers, pinecones, acorns, etc.
  16. Fly kites – with the weather getting windier why not fly some kites? Go to a hill or head down to the beach where you will have plenty of room to run.
  17. Autumn calls for warming foods  – make stews, chillis, sausages & mash, pies and soups.
  18. Have an Autumnal photo shoot – dress up all cosy and take pics surrounded by the golden tones of Autumn.
  19. Drink your body weight in Hot Chocolate – either pick some up at a coffee shop or make your own at home.  Add some marshmallows, squirty cream, cinnamon sticks, sprinkles, etc to make it look pretty too.
  20. Buy things to donate to your local food bank – give something back this season by donating food.  Check to see what your local food bank needs and donate things that they are short of.

Make s’mores, bake pie, and drink hot chocolate…yeah, I can do that! These are all great ideas. Plus hiking in the fall is absolutely amazing, with the leaves changing color and moderate weather!

    • Denise says:

The changing colour of leaves is such an amazing sight isn’t it? Over here in the UK the weather can be really cold rather than moderate in Summer never mind Autumn 😄

  3. I love this list and cannot wait for Fall to hit Phoenix, sure it wont be till after Halloween, but I’m so excited!

    • Denise says:

Thank you! Yes I’m excited too, it’s really starting to turn into Autumn here now. By Halloween it will be freezing over here and starting to become Winter.

I think that you’ve listed some really great item activities I’d be interested in toasting marshmallows and maybe even going to a pumpkin patch.

  6. Esse D says:

I love autumn, but I don’t get to enjoy it as much because I live in south Florida. We don’t get the autumn colored leaves falling and such. I miss that about home (SC). This list is great because I can STILL do some of this stuff.
