Ok so this isn’t going to win the healthiest meal award but it’s comfort food at it’s best, plus add a side salad to it and that cancels out the badness. Honest! I bought a pack of 6 mini burgers and I had no buns left to put them in so I had a quick look on Pinterest to see what recipes I could use the burgers with and a Burger and Fries Pie came up. It looked really easy to make, I had the ingredients in the house and it only took 40 mins to cook. The recipe that I saw was an American one and it said to use ground beef but since burgers are minced beef stuck together I broke them up into chunks and it worked just as well. That was not my only modification to the recipe as I used gluten free flour instead of the plain flour it asked for.
So here is my UK Gluten Free version, makes enough for 3 portions.
6 Mini Burgers broken into chunks (if using mince add seasoning for taste)
1/2 Red Onion chopped
1 1/2 Tablespoons Gluten Free Flour
1 Tin of Chopped Tomatoes
2 Handfuls Grated Cheese
Crinkle Cut Chips (Frozen)
How to make:
Preheat your oven 180 degrees (fan oven)
Brown your burgers (or mince if using) and onions for about 5 minutes
Drain excess fat and add the flour. Cook for a further minute, stirring constantly
Add the chopped tomatoes and heat through
Place the meat mixture into an ovenproof dish and add a layer of cheese
Add the chips in a single layer to the top of the mix
Place in the oven and cook for 30 minutes or until your chips are cooked
Leave to stand for 5 minutes before serving
You could add a layer of bacon, more cheese or chillis if you want a bit of a kick. While it does look a bit sloppy on the plate, the taste definitely makes up for it! :). I will certainly be making this one again.
